05/16/83 Susan Shearin Clary, age - 20-year-old pregnant woman found dead in her bed May 16, 1983, nude with two unfired guns nearby. Autopsy determined that the cause of death was asphyxiation secondary to strangulation
Clary was found dead in her own bed by her father. A bra was wrapped around her nude body but it wasn’t used to kill her and she had not been sexually assaulted, according to investigators. Her temple was bruised. There were two guns placed on top of dressers and previous to that they’d been hidden, Neither had been fired. The bed was moved out of place. A foot stool, a rather large one was moved out of place. There was a guard dog. If anything out of the ordinary were to happen, the dog was known to be excessively loud and aggressive. The dog didn’t bark that morning.
Susan Shearin Clary had been expected at her job as tax collector and assistant town clerk for the Town of Weldon. Her mother, Maurice Shearin worked in an insurance office then, and she was expecting to see her daughter Susan Shearin Clary that morning. She had an appointment with the realtor that worked in her office. When she didn’t show up she called her work and they said she hadn’t shown up for work.
When her mother found out Susan hadn’t shown up for work, she called her father, Herman Shearin, a town commissioner, and told him she thought something was wrong and asked him to go to the house on Washington Avenue to check on their daughter.
Herman found her on the bed and immediately called law enforcement.
Her family still seeks justice and investigators move forward with determination to bring the killer to light.
