REWARD UP TO $15,000 OFFERED FOR INFORMATION THAT LEADS TO THE ARREST OF THE SUSPECT(S) RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS CRIME
Hoy Jefferson Cobb Jr., 75 known as Jeff to family and friends, was found dead on Nov. 11, 2014, in his residence on Jeffreys Court. He died of multiple stab wounds to the chest, according to his death certificate.
Cobb was a lifelong resident of the Benvenue community. He was a faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church for 75 years serving many times on the church council and, in more recent years, in a behind the scenes role. Educated in the Nash County Schools, he attended East Carolina University for his undergraduate degree and then Masters. He taught in the Rocky Mount City Schools and was assistant principal at RMSH. He left to become the lead administrator in establishing the Area L AHEC Center in Rocky Mount. Cobb later became involved with family business interests in Cobb’s Motel & Restaurant and then various real estate rental properties for most of his adult life. Jeff was active in local community and government having served on the Nash County Board of Education, a County Commissioner, and the Board of Directors for Nash General Hospital. As a Trustee of the Rocky Mount Elks, he was recently granted a Life Membership after 40 years of loyal service which included having been a Lecturing Knight, Esteemed Leading Knight, and Exalted Ruler.
Those who knew Jeff Cobb well, knew him to be a ladies’ man, even into his elder years. His appreciation of women may have lead to his death. There was an open package of condoms on the bedside table. A woman’s hair tie was found on the floor of the bedroom, according to an investigation report.
Cobb had an acute amount of alcohol in his system and his stomach was full of a red-tinged fluid with a sweet odor, according to the autopsy’s toxicology report.
Many have speculated that Cobb picked up a lady and the boyfriend or husband found out and killed him. Robbery was NOT the motive as nothing was missing from the residence.
