SEEKING JUSTICE FOR ALMA RUTH ATKINSON KILLED 7/31/1982 SUGGS STREET WILSON, NC

On July 31, 1982, Officers of the Wilson Police Department were dispatched to 608 Suggs Street in reference to a subject being down. Officers arrived and found Alma Ruth Atkinson murdered inside her residence as a result of a stabbing which occurred approximately between 2:00 AM and 4:00 AM. The suspect was described as being a black male that was between the ages of 18 to 25 years old. He had a medium afro, brown eyes, light complexion, a thin mustache that was curled up on the ends, and a scar that was about 6 inches on his right leg near his ankle. Later in 1982, a governor’s reward of $5,000.00 was offered for information leading to an arrest and conviction of the murderer who had not been identified. Below is a composite sketch of the suspect that was done with a witness in the case.
The suspect would be between 55-65 years old now.
